Résumé

Background: Autism spectrum disorders are considered to be a public health problem due to the large number of people affected and the limited therapeutic responses available. Osteopathy is proposed as a new therapeutic approach to the care of people with autism spectrum disorders.

Methods: For this qualitative longitudinal prospective interventional case study, with a reasoned strategy, five consultations were carried out with three interviews of the patient and his legal guardian at the beginning, middle and end of the study. A questionnaire on the perception of stress was completed at the beginning and end of the study, and a logbook was also kept by the practitioner.

Results: The results seem to show a positive change in the patient’s disorders and perception of stress. The patient’s encopresis problems seem to be decreasing in intensity and the results of the stress inventory show good progress.

Conclusion: Osteopathy may have potential as a therapy for improving stress levels in children with ASD. However, other tools would be needed to carry out a more complete study. Perhaps some of the tools used need to be changed.

KEYWORDS: disorders, autism, stress, osteopathy, multidisciplinary.
